Auto-smileys and code don’t mix

This bugs me: using instant messaging, I type code snippets (because I’m talking to other developers) and the auto-smiley technology misinterprets my punctuation.

I type:

CTimer::Shutdown, as I typed it

I get:

CTimer:@hutdown, with a smiley in it
